Transparent furniture, a place for light

Light and fresh, the trend is towards transparent furniture. In glass or Plexiglas, transparent furniture adds a touch of modernism and originality to any decor, giving it a trendy or even futuristic look, depending on the style. Here are a few ideas for integrating transparent furniture into your interior.

In the dining room and kitchen

The dining room is a real playground for transparent furniture. For the table, you can opt for a completely transparent model. Today's materials make it possible to adopt large-scale furniture with undeniable solidity and durability, thanks to the use of materials such as tempered glass. What's more, a large dining table can quickly become an imposing presence in a room. And yet, if you're used to entertaining, it's preferable to have sufficient dining space. Opting for a transparent dining table will allow light to pass through, and even see through it, removing its perhaps too imposing appearance for some rooms. Alternatively, you can opt for a bimaterial table, with a glass top and wood or metal frame and legs, for example. The interplay of materials will create a trendy and original look!

The seats can also be made of glass or Plexiglas to match the table, or why not play with the combination of materials by mismatching them. Here too, a large number of transparent seats will remove the feeling of clutter in small rooms. When it comes to comfort, don't worry: transparent chairs are also designed to offer the same level of comfort and sturdiness as other materials. What's more, Plexiglas models also allow you to opt for color with tinted plastic to give a more pop ambiance to the space.

Finally, if you have a bar or a central island, for example, bar stools can also play the game of transparency to blend in with the often very present kitchen furniture.

In the living room and office

Transparent furniture doesn't have to be reserved for the dining area, with several pieces or imposing creations, it's perfectly possible to impose it in small touches, particularly in the living room and office. For example, you could opt for a transparent armchair with a sophisticated, structural style, or a bubble-style armchair if you prefer a more streamlined look. What's more, colorful 70s-inspired models are also very much in vogue. All in all, Plexiglas and glass offer a wealth of possibilities if you're looking for a transparent armchair for your living room. It's a bold choice that will give you a personalized look that you'll rarely have trouble blending with the rest of your decor.

On the desk side, you can also opt for transparent furniture, why not a desk with a large glass top and a "drawing table" look. Here too, people who need a large workspace but don't want their chosen piece of furniture to intrude too much on their overall decor will be happy with transparent furniture.

If you want to add transparency in small touches, you can also opt for stools to position around your coffee table, for example, a great opportunity to opt for a rounded shape that will give the illusion of a light bubble placed right on the floor.

Light fixtures

The transparency trend isn't just reserved for furniture, it's also invading the lighting department. Suspended luminaires, table lamps, wall lamps - Plexiglas and glass are the order of the day, whatever the type of luminaire.

In the case of suspended fixtures, multiple transparent or translucent glass bubbles enclose the bulbs to enhance the lighting and give an impression of lightness. You can play with heights to create an effect of weightlessness, as well as tinting the glass to add color and warmth to the room. Plastic can also be used to play with the shapes and cut-outs of pendant lights, so as to draw light across the ceiling almost like a canvas. As hanging lights are often the main source of light in a room, the use of transparent materials will have the advantage of offering original shapes without altering the quality of lighting.

Wall sconces and table lamps are not to be outdone, since they too can make use of transparency, sometimes with even greater freedom if used as a secondary light source. The result can be more sophisticated or, on the contrary, more refined cut-outs, depending on taste, positioning the object as a genuine decorative piece while offering a new source of light.

And if you want to continue down this path and use transparency to decorate your home, there are plenty of candle holders that let you play with the luminosity of a candle to add a little lightness to your decor.

In short, transparency is still one of the major trends of the moment, whether in transparent furniture such as chairs, tables, barstools or desks, or in objects that offer a source of light and allow you to work with it (hanging lights, lamps, sconces, photophores...). Glass or plastic, all that's left to do is make a choice as to how you wish to integrate transparency into your interior!
