LED furniture, a bright decorating idea

LED bulbs and ribbons are all the rage! With their many advantages and interior design possibilities, illuminated furniture is a natural choice. What are the special features of these furniture items? How do you install and arrange them to decorate your home? Find the answers in this article.

What is a light-emitting diode?

The name LED comes from "light-emitting diode". As the name suggests, it is a component that generates light when an electric current is passed through it.

It differs from other types of bulb, such as halogen, compact fluorescent or incandescent, in particular because of its superior performance. In fact, they are stronger and last longer than other bulbs, while consuming less and emitting no heat. In concrete terms :

- Light-emitting diodes consume 10 times less electricity than an incandescent bulb, and 5 times less than a compact fluorescent. Energy savings of up to 80% are therefore possible with these models.
- The life of an LED is around twenty years, which means it lasts fifty times longer than an incandescent bulb.
- Lighting is immediate, so there's no need to wait as with a compact fluorescent bulb.

On the lighting market, this is quite simply the most attractive bulb in terms of value for money.

What are the advantages of LED ribbons?

LED ribbon differs from luminous furniture in that it can be installed without being systematically associated with a particular piece of furniture. You choose where to place it. A real asset for anyone wishing to update their interior design, it's flexible, slender and available in many different lengths. In other words, you have a vast choice and total freedom when it comes to implementing your interior design.

These ribbons are a simple way of awakening the soul of a room, bringing it to life and highlighting certain previously invisible aspects. For example, LED ribbons can be installed on ceiling mouldings, under skirting boards or on staircases (providing a clearer demarcation of the steps and therefore greater safety for the occupants of the home).

Ribbons can also be used in many other areas of the home: mirrors, TVs and TV stands, pictures, bedheads... The idea is to bring light into the home, so that when night falls, the atmosphere is unique, mysterious and original.

There are two types of ribbon: monochrome and multicolored. So you can choose between a bright, colorful solution, or a more modest, yet sober and chic lighting scheme. It all depends on the room: a warm, white light is perfect for a bedroom, while a multicolored ribbon is ideal for a living room, outdoors or in a children's room.

What are the different types of illuminated furniture?

Illuminated furniture is particularly trendy! Energy-saving, stylish and contemporary, LEDs have given rise to luminous furniture, which is winning over many decorating professionals.

And with good reason: the possibilities offered by luminous furniture are endless. Starting with white light and the three colors yellow, red and blue, luminous furniture can create hundreds and hundreds of different lighting effects. The light source is also more subdued than a conventional lamp, chandelier or ceiling light. And there are plenty of furniture items now equipped with light-emitting diodes:

- You can opt for all kinds of illuminated furniture, from living room sofas to illuminated outdoor tables. Both the interior and exterior of your home can benefit from these decorative and furnishing elements.
- There are also designer lighting fixtures that change color and hue. These models can be remotely controlled using a home automation box, allowing you to create the lighting ambience of your choice in a matter of moments.
- The lines and design of these furniture items are modern, lending a designer touch to your interior decor. The lighting integrated into the furniture immediately catches the eye of the occupant or visitor, adding a new dimension to the layout of the room.
- This type of furniture also invites itself into bedrooms: by opting for a luminous bed, you choose a slightly futuristic and soothing atmosphere. An original choice, which doesn't necessarily require you to be a sci-fi fan to appreciate it.
- You can also choose to install armchairs, chairs and other illuminated seating if you want to make your living room a place enveloped in a unique, almost magical atmosphere. If the living space in your home allows, there are also illuminated bars.
- If you want to be more discreet, without forgoing the touches of light provided by illuminated furniture, there are less conspicuous solutions such as illuminated shelves. As another example, with a TV stand of this type, you'll have plenty of light, which won't be reflected on your screen.

Note that while most LED furniture comes in a modern, contemporary design, the ribbons can be adapted to all types of furniture, even antique, when a white light model is used. Multicolored lights should be avoided, however, for furniture with a classic, traditional appearance, at the risk of producing a disharmonious effect.

As you can see, illuminated furniture is an original way of creating unique atmospheres in interior design. The possibilities are endless, for both indoors and outdoors, for living rooms as well as bedrooms and bathrooms!
