Our tips for dining tables and coffee tables!
Whatever the room, the table is an essential. Both aesthetic and functional, it must be chosen with care to blend in with the interior design, while remaining practical and useful for everyday use. What are the different types of table, and how can you harmonize them with your interior decor? Mobilier de France explains.
What are the different types of table?
At Mobilier de France France, you'll find tables in all their forms: extendable or folding dining tables, living room tables, kitchen tables or bedside tables, round or rectangular tables... It's the place where family and friends gather for moments of sharing! That's why it's important to choose the right piece of furniture for each room, find the ideal location and harmonize it with the decor.
Each room imposes its own constraints and offers its own decorative opportunities. That's why Mobilier de France can help you choose the right indoor and outdoor tables for your home.
How to choose your dining room table?
Here is a list of factors to consider when choosing the right designer dining table:
• Check the available space in your dining room. The standard height for this type of furniture is around 75 cm, but there is a wide variety available, and not all of them will fit the available space in your home. In smaller dining rooms, opt for compact rectangular models that can fit into corners—preferably foldable ones. On the other hand, feel free to go for larger dimensions and rounded shapes if you have a spacious room. If needed, you can opt for an extendable console table to save space and provide extra storage in your dining room.
• Also consider how many people will use it daily and how often. Choose a round table for a cozy atmosphere, and a rectangular table if you have a large family. Square tables are ideal for singles or couples living in small spaces, as they can be placed in corners and thus save a significant amount of space.
• The material should complement your interior decor. Here are a few tips to help you achieve this: a wooden table blends perfectly with Scandinavian decor, while a metal table is the ideal complement to contemporary and/or industrial decor. For a touch of elegance, opt for white or lacquered finishes, and choose a glass table if you don’t want to lose any of the room’s natural light.
What about outdoor tables?
Outdoor furniture can be made ofstainless steel (to avoid the damaging effects of the elements),aluminum, wood (a noble European or exotic wood that blends perfectly into a garden or green space) or even woven resin (for a natural, designer and contemporary look). Note that there are also mixed models, blending several composition materials.
For families of two to four people, round and square tables are preferable, and rectangular and oval models should be reserved for larger tables. As for the living room, there are also extendable models that come in very handy when the weather's nice and invitations to sit out in the sun start to multiply!
Focus on bedside tables
Comfort must be your priority when choosing your bedside table. You fall asleep and wake up next to your bedside tables, so they should evoke serenity, and be practical for everyday use.
Your bedside table should be placed close to the bed. It should be large enough to accommodate a bedside lamp, one or more books, and possibly an alarm clock. Bedside table styles vary enormously, and go with all types of decor: vintage, classic, modern, sleek or futuristic, the choice is yours.
The marble table, a very specific piece of furniture
A marble coffee table doesn't detract from the warmth of a living room. On the contrary, the rest of the room's decor softens the sometimes cold appearance of this prestigious stone, integrating it harmoniously with the rest of the room.
In a kitchen or dining room, the choice of a marble table is ideal to match a matching credenza. Accompanied by a wooden floor and chairs in warm hues, the ensemble blends brilliantly to create a highly original atmosphere in the room, where it's a pleasure to get together to cook and eat. In other words, a table that won't leave you speechless!
How to decorate a coffee table?
The coffee table in a living room is also a convivial piece of furniture, where people gather for aperitifs, cocooning afternoons or simply an evening of television. The living room itself is the centerpiece of the home, so it needs to be decorated to perfection! Several solutions are available to enhance your interior space:
- Add plants! Small potted plants on your coffee table will immediately give your living room a varied, natural and original look. A very large vase can accommodate a bouquet of flowers, a bed of plants or a large-scale plant.
- Place books under the tabletop. This is the ideal place to spend an afternoon reading in calm and serenity. With this decorating solution, you'll have your books close at hand.
- Go for asymmetry. Statuettes, plants or candles can be placed at the end of the table rather than in the center, creating an original atmosphere. Don't hesitate to add a tray, which can hold your various decorative elements while serving aperitifs or snacks!
- Why settle for a single table? You can juxtapose two different models to play on asymmetry, differences in materials and dimensions.
- If you prefer symmetrical decorations, place decorative elements at the four corners of your table. Note, however, that this trick works best visually for larger models and larger spaces.
